Description
Wild Bergamot or beebalm
Monarda fistulosa L.
Perennial native plant
Height: 2 to 4 feet
Width: 2 to 3 feet
Flower color: pink, purple, or white
Bloom time: summer
Light needed: sun, part sun
Soil needed: dry, moist. Thrives in a wide range of soils, from acid to lime to rich to poor to sand to clay.
Notes: Member of the mint family so it spreads quickly but it is fairly easy to control. The native species is susceptible to powdery mildew, but some cultivars, such as ‘Claire Grace’, are mildew resistant. Reduce mildew by providing good drainage and air circulation.
